Juntamente com Phantasy Star, a série Shining é um dos grandes títulos da SEGA do gênero RPG.
A marca nos faz pensar ser um remake de "Shining the Holy Ark" que foi lançado em 1996 (1997 fora do Japão) para o Sega Saturn. O qual veio posteriormente ao "Shining Wisdom" em 1995 também para o Saturn.
